1940   Born on October 30th, in Rasht, Iran.

1951   Death of father Mohammad.

1953   Moves to Tehran, Iran.

1954   Enters Jam High School.

1956   Sells first painting.

1957   Starts working as graphic artist at Ashena Advertising Co., Tehran.

1958   Starts collecting Persian miniatures and calligraphies.

1959   Illustrates for Iranian Ministry of Education official textbooks.

1962   First restorations of old Persian miniatures and calligraphies.

1963   Begins studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran.

1968   Illustrates Ferdowsi magazine covers.

1972   Publishes first art reviews for Andisheh o-Honar quarterly.

            Marries Shohreh Vaziri-Tabar.

1973   Illustrates Story of the Little Red Ball children’s book.

1974   Starts producing and presenting Ways of Seeing, a weekly TV show on art.

1975   Begins lecturing and instructing at various art schools.

            Exhibition of his Persian calligraphy collection from 15th century to present, Negarestan Museum, Tehran.

            First solo exhibition at Iran-America Society, Tehran.

1976   Accepts position of Cultural and Artistic Director at the Office of Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi.

1977   Establishes Reza Abbasi Museum, Tehran and accepts the role of Director and Chief Curator at the museum.

            Establishes Kerman Sanati Museum of Contemporary Art.

            Curates an exhibition of Persian art from the Reza Abbasi Museum in Beijing, China.

1978   Curates an exhibition of Persian art from the Reza Abbasi Museum in Tokyo, Japan.

1979   Let go of all his official duties and public positions in the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution.

1980   Divorces Shohreh Vaziri-Tabar.

1981   Marries Firoozeh Athari.

            Establishes private academy of art in Tehran.

1982   Birth of son Takin.

            Death of mother Nahid Nakhjavan.

1988   Birth of daughter Tara.

1990   Publishes Self-portraits, his first collection of paintings.

1992   Publishes Of Joys and Yearnings, his first collection of essays and interviews.

1994   Publishes his first monograph.

2000   Aydin Aghdashloo’s Book Covers Exhibition at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.

2001   Accepts teaching position at the Faculty of Art, University of Kerman, Iran.

            Family moves to Canada.

2004   Participates in Iranian Contemporary Art exhibition at the Barbican Centre, London, UK.

2005   Represents Iran at Hunt for Paradise: Court Arts of Safavid Iran exhibition, Milan, Italy.

2006   Lectures on revolutionary art, Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, UK.

            Aydin Unlimited solo exhibition, Arta Gallery, Toronto, Canada.

2012   Evening of Aydin Aghdashloo commemoration ceremony, Tehran.

2013   Publishes Heavenly and Earthly, a book on Iranian calligraphy.

2014   Solo exhibition at Farjam Foundation, Dubai, UAE.

            Aydin Aghdashloo: A Selection of Paintings solo exhibition, Assar Gallery, Tehran.

2015   Publishes eight-volume collection of essays and writings.

2016   Awarded Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France

            Lectures on Iranian Contemporary Art, University of California, Irvine, USA

2019   Establishment of Aydin Aghdashloo Foundation.

2020   Participates in Memling Now exhibition at Sint-Janshospitaal Museum, Brugge, Belgium.

2024   First international monograph is published by Skira, Milan.
